The Lean Project Coaches hit the 50 posts mark on Friday. Quite a milestone for just 6 weeks blogging at Coaches Corner. They are writing on all aspects of lean projects. Tap into that for your projects.
LPSThe Last Planner System® is a lean approach to planning and delivering projects. It is based on a hierarchy of planning: should, can, will, and did. LPS is not a computer system. It is a set of protocols corresponding with the four above items: pull planning, look-ahead planning, task planning, and daily coordination.

Lean Project blog is a great find. Although we’re not in the construction business, many of the “make ready” processes are identical to the Plan of the Week for A&D projects. As well the PPC is mandated by DoD guidelines.
If these two concepts alone were incorporated into IT projects I’d conjecture the failure rate would drop dramatically. I say this from personal experience of being on both sides (commerical IT and A&D software intensive).
The critical success factor for A&D is the Integated Master Schedule (IMS) derived from the Integrated Master Plan (IMP), which describes how the maturity of the deliverables is increased with the completion of each work package. This paradigm is mandated by DoD on any progam >$20M.
Glen, I passed along your kudos. Thanks!
Thanks for pointing us to this Hal! I somehow had missed Coaches Corner, but I will be spending a lot of time there now!
