Mark GrabanI've been introducing the Gang-of-Seven members by their blogging. The last of the seven writing on project kaizen is Mark Graban who writes the Lean Manufacturing Blog. Mark covers the gamut when it comes to lean. And, he's snared some great interviews recently with Jim Womack, parts [1] [2] [3] [4] [5], and Norman Bodek, parts [1] and [2]. (Why didn't I think of that!)

What intrigues me most about Mark is his willingness to lead with his opinions. In a recent posting Mark spoke about an announcement Merck made on their lean strategy. He opened this way:

"If Merck thinks they are going to cut 7,000 jobs over the next two years AND implement lean, they've stumbled across a lean strategy nobody else has ever made successful."

Mark goes on to explain why the approach is risky. This is the kind of commentary with insight that he does well. Here's how Mark finished the piece on Merck:

"(I)t sounds like a desperate attempt to convince Wall Street that they're getting better."

Is he right? Who knows, but he's a pleasure to read. Don't miss Mark's commentary on project kaizen.
