I'm always on the lookout for people who can point me to something I want to know more about. If you want to learn about innovation, then Chuck Frey, writing at the Innovation Weblog, will get you started in the right direction. Chuck seems to know everyone who knows anything about innovation. But he's not just a maven. His commentary on innovation is instructive.
(T)here is no problem, only a far better way of doing something.
So what's the connection to project kaizen? Well, Chuck had the same question. kaizen is often understood as (just) solving problems. I don't buy that. For many situations there is no problem, only a far better way of doing something. Every time someone comes up with a better way they likely are innovating. Yet, we reserve the word "innovate" for people who do something big…really big. Little innovations from everyone everyday is an engine for success. Chuck will be commenting on the innovation opportunities in the project kaizen postings from the rest of us. Don't miss it!
